Playing with Plaid:)))

Hi there... In my last post i used Plaid table cloth for an Fall table setting. There was a interesting question in  comment box that 'Is there any season that you cannot use Plaid?  That made me little curious and made me to think why plaid materials are used widely in Fall/Winter more, than in other two seasons. Did a little bit of  study about plaid/tartan and its use and sharing few points here what i understood.

They are mostly used during later part of the year for various reasons.  It is a versatile material for Fall/Winter. The fabric is a combination of wool and cotton. Plaid is a pattern of strips or bands of bold colour that intersect to form squares. For centuries its been popular and are associated with various culture and fashion traditions. In Summer plaid patterns are used in cotton materials which are breathable and easy to wear.

Some popular plaid patterns are:

Tartan plaid a pattern that originated from Scottish clans & families.

Madras Plaid a vibrant pattern from India that features colourful checks and strips.  Proud to say this is from my very own city Madras.

Buffalo check a pattern known for its large bold checks. Few other patterns are Gingham, tartan, hounds tooth, window pane tatters-all.

The material is used in making shirts, scarves, skirts, kilts, or jackets. In recent times the pattern invaded the interior world for the use of cushion cover, napkins, table-cloth, sofa covers, curtains, duvets, carpets, bed spreads and for gift wrappings as well and the list endless. Hand bags and travel bags are not left out as many people are fond of using them world wide for the pattern.

Materials used are flannel, twill, jacquard , boucle.

I would say my favourite would be Blue Plaid with the combination of white for a bed spread. what is your favourite plaid?

Sharing  garden table here set on a plaid table cloth . The days are getting shorter and using string lights as a back drop made the setting to look beautiful and apt for the season as well.

  1. I love a pretty plaid such as yours. I think plaids make interesting bases for tablescapes since they provide many colors to build on. The lights in the evening are beautiful. I hope you enjoy a wonderful autumn.

Shades of Green

This is September, and the month offers its own fresh start to many things. Here in India, it is the beginning of festivities and celebrations for the next few coming weeks. These are the days of showers too, and it is truly refreshing & soothing to see the plants and trees after every brief shower. The moist leaves give us an impression that they are happy and smiling and breathing a 'Thank You' for the fresh green look. I love the colour green and as we all know it is one of Mother Natures primary colours. The green stem is honoured and credited to hold every flower of different colours. That's awesome. Inspiration comes from every where and the colour green inspired me to do a scape, with the green touch. I collected the green ware from the racks and putting it together as a teascape was pleasing to the eyes like the happy greenery around us. Sometimes it is wonderful to have tea and treat ourselves amongst a small collection of green plants. M...
