  5. OK...so you have REALLY piqued my interest here. I am going to ask a LOT of questions. I am always so interested in other cultures, so I ask a lot of questions so I'll know the answers and seem smart to my friends! (Plus, I just hate being stupid!) :-) I remember you were so incredibly sweet as to create a Thanksgiving table back in November (that was one of my favorites of yours because you tried something that isn't a tradition for you...SO COOL!!!) The Fruit Chatt seems kind of like a fruit salad, but the chili powder, cumin, and green chilies in it...that is very different from anything I have ever eaten. I Googled asafoetida because that's not something that is generally sold here in the U.S. It was described as having a strong scent and a taste that is kind of like aged garlic. Is that an accurate description? I have seen the jaggery in some of our upscale stores here but never knew what it was used for until I Googled it and discovered it is sweet. So the sweet flavors of the fruits and jaggery go well with the spiciness of the green chilies and the pungent flavor of the asafoetida? Is the jaggery ground up like sugar or cut into pieces or what? I'm really interested in this because it's very different and I would like to order it in a restaurant, but I need a little heads up on what it might taste like. (I'm bad when it comes to trying new foods, but I'm trying to branch out!) I recognize a few of the other foods on the table, but what is the round food that looks kind of like a corn tortilla? Are they used for scooping up the corn/tomato/onion salad? And what is the food in the dish with the curled end? Are those nuts? Wow...I wish I could visit India. I know I would learn a LOT!!! It's funny how foods are so different in all the different countries. There are so many foods and spices that I have never heard of or tried! Do you prepare the Biryani for Christmas dinner? If so, which kind? You set up a really pretty table with all the white dishes that really show the food off nicely. And I LOVE that you have a Christmas tree outdoors! It's way too cold to do that here where I live! We have snow outside right now. I know I asked a lot of questions, Sujatha, but I really like to learn!!!!!!! Just in case I don't get a chance to chat with you again before next week, I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!!!

Diwali With Lights

The word Deepavali stems from the Sanskrit words, Deepa meaning ‘Light’ and Avali meaning ‘Row’. It means a row of lights and illumination is undoubtedly its main attraction. Shades of Green

This is September, and the month offers its own fresh start to many things. Here in India, it is the beginning of festivities and celebrations for the next few coming weeks. These are the days of showers too, and it is truly refreshing & soothing to see the plants and trees after every brief shower. The moist leaves give us an impression that they are happy and smiling and breathing a 'Thank You' for the fresh green look. I love the colour green and as we all know it is one of Mother Natures primary colours. The green stem is honoured and credited to hold every flower of different colours. That's awesome. Inspiration comes from every where and the colour green inspired me to do a scape, with the green touch. I collected the green ware from the racks and putting it together as a teascape was pleasing to the eyes like the happy greenery around us. Sometimes it is wonderful to have tea and treat ourselves amongst a small collection of green plants. M
